1. Purpose of These Guidelines

These Community Guidelines exist to maintain a safe, respectful, and constructive environment for everyone who uses Open University Media. The platform allows students to express themselves freely and anonymously, but this freedom must be balanced with responsibility, safety, and respect for others.

These Guidelines apply to all interactions on the Platform, including posts, comments, reports, and direct communication with moderators.

Failure to comply may result in content removal, account suspension, or legal action where appropriate.


2. Core Principles of the Community

Open University Media is built on five essential principles:

Students may express stress, frustration, challenges, academic pressure, or personal feelings. Limited swearing used as emotional expression is allowed, such as:

  • “That class was fucking useless today.”

  • “This assignment is driving me insane.”

Such expressions are permitted as long as they are not targeted at real individuals with the intention to harm.

3.2 Personal Experiences

Users may share anonymous stories about:

  • College life

  • Social challenges

  • Academic struggles

  • Family pressures

  • Mental health feelings (non-harmful)

  • Relationships (non-explicit)

3.3 Non-Harmful Opinions

Constructive opinions about:

  • Education

  • College systems

  • Teaching styles

  • Campus events

  • General topics

are allowed as long as they remain respectful and non-defamatory.

3.4 Advice and Support

Users are encouraged to provide helpful, responsible advice to peers without promoting self-harm, illegal activity, or harmful behaviour.


4. Prohibited Content

The Platform follows strict safety standards. The following types of content are not allowed under any circumstances.


4.1 Targeted Abuse or Personal Attacks

While limited swearing is permitted when expressing emotions, the following are prohibited:

  • Direct insults towards real individuals

  • Harassment, bullying, or repeated targeting

  • Naming professors, students, staff, or identifiable people with abusive statements

  • Defamation or character assassination

  • Attempts to damage someone’s reputation

Examples of prohibited content:

  • “Professor X is a bitch.”

  • “Y deserves to be beaten.”

  • “Z from CS department is a fraud.”

Even mild swearwords become disallowed when used against identifiable individuals.


4.2 Sexual or Degrading Insults

The following terms are banned completely regardless of context:

  • “slut”

  • “whore”

  • “hoe”

  • “prostitute” as an insult

  • Sexually explicit insults

  • Misogynistic language

  • Homophobic or transphobic slurs

  • Caste-based, religion-based, or ethnic slurs

Such language is harmful, discriminatory, and violates Indian societal and legal standards.


4.3 Explicit Sexual Content

Any type of explicit sexual content is prohibited, including:

  • Pornographic descriptions

  • Detailed sexual stories

  • Sexual discussions involving real people

  • Sexual content involving minors

Violation may result in immediate removal and escalation.


4.4 Violence, Threats, or Harm

Users must not promote, encourage, or endorse:

  • Physical violence

  • Self-harm

  • Suicide

  • Threats against others

  • Violent fantasies

  • Encouragement of dangerous behaviour

If you or someone else is in danger, professional help should be sought immediately.


4.5 Illegal Activities

Under no circumstances may users post content that:

  • Encourages illegal substances

  • Promotes cybercrime or hacking

  • Shares exam leaks or confidential material

  • Discusses weapons or violence

  • Involves fraud or financial crimes

  • Provides instructions for unlawful acts

  • Mentions participation in criminal behaviour

Posts with even a hint of illegal content may be removed automatically.


4.6 Non-English Content

Open University Media is an English-only platform. Prohibited:

  • Posts in regional Indian languages

  • Transliterated language (like Hinglish)

  • Non-English slang

  • Content that mixes English with another language excessively

Posts violating this rule may be rejected by automated moderation.


4.7 Personal Information and Doxxing

Users must not share:

  • Names of classmates or professors

  • Phone numbers

  • Addresses

  • Photos

  • Screenshots containing identifiable details

  • Private conversations

  • Social media handles

  • Any information enabling identification of a person

Doxxing is a severe violation and may lead to account termination or legal reporting.


5. AI Moderation and Human Review

The Platform uses automated AI moderation systems to review all content before it is made public. Users must understand:

  • AI may occasionally remove harmless content

  • AI may approve content that later needs removal

  • Human moderators may review flagged content

  • Moderation decisions may be final

  • Appeals can be made in certain cases

  • Safety is the highest priority

Posts may be delayed or rejected based on AI screening.


6. Responsible Use of Anonymity

Anonymity is provided to encourage honest expression, but users must not misuse anonymity to:

  • Attack others

  • Encourage crime

  • Spread misinformation

  • Engage in harassment

  • Post harmful content

  • Manipulate discussions

  • Pretend to be another user

Although emails are required for accounts, this information remains private unless required by law.


7. Respectful Community Behaviour

Users must:

  • Treat others with basic respect

  • Avoid needlessly hostile or toxic behaviour

  • Communicate constructively

  • Stay within legal boundaries

  • Remember that real people read their posts

  • Maintain maturity and responsibility

Content meant exclusively to shock, provoke, or harm will be removed.


8. Reporting Violations

Users are encouraged to report:

  • Illegal content

  • Explicit content

  • Privacy violations

  • False information

  • Dangerous posts

Reports are reviewed with priority. False reporting or malicious reporting is prohibited.


9. Consequences for Violations

Violation of these Guidelines may result in:

  • Loss of posting privileges

  • Investigation by moderators

  • Reporting to authorities in serious cases

Consequences depend on severity, intent, and frequency.


10. Updates to Guidelines
